Kind comments are invited.
*** A post about Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled, and the boys who opened their hearts to let him play in their baseball game, touched me so deeply, I wept profusely while reading. That evening, the Deep Space Nine episode which came up in the order of watching (S7, E4: Take Me Out to the Holosuite) was about a baseball game between the station crew and Vulcan rivals. It carried a sub theme very like the true story of Shay, when the Ferengi Rom, who'd been thrown off the team for his inability to play, was invited back into the game and made (as in the true story of Shay, on my FB timeline) a hero of the day. The synchronicity of such similar stories meeting me in one day multiplied the potency of their effect. The holosuite metaphor, applied to the apparent reality of earth life, also speaks to me. And then, last night, in the episode, 'Treachery, Faith, and The Great River', Nog spoke of the Great Material Continuum. Though science fiction is not a reliable source for a complete explanation of existence, Nog's comments caught my attention. In 'Beyond Biocentrism', Bob Berman wrote of his oneness experience, 'Objects were no longer separate items existing in space; instead, everything was the same continuum.' The new science of Biocentrism, proposed by highly regarded classical scientists and based on the latest quantum theory, is my go-to for an understanding from physics. Yet, this understanding is not the end of the story, either. The relationship between observer and observed is still within the holodeck, which according to my current view, is provided by something beyond it, the AllThatIs/NoneThatIs. Paradoxically, there is only an apparent beyond. For me there is clarity in conceptualizing the Flow of Life (the holodeck of apparent separation), the Probability Void (of quantum mechanics/physics) and the Unified Continuum (the non-separated Oneness of the two). But if it remains abstract it remains unreal. Direct, felt experience is the key 🔑 to applying the conceptual to everyday life. Recently, this type of direct experience has moved through my apparent body of sensations, and it felt real. From Fandom: The Great Material Continuum, sometimes also called the "Great River" or just the "Great Continuum", was a spiritual concept from Ferengi culture. Ferengi saw the universe as having "millions of worlds, all with too much of one, and not enough of the other," with the Great Continuum flowing through them all like a mighty river, from have to want and back again. As such, it was the force that bound the universe together. To get everything you desire in life, you had to have your ship navigate the Continuum with entrepreneurial skill and grace. In practice, this meant that material taken from one area had to be replaced or paid for through another means, while avoiding obstacles and pitfalls. If one region had a shortage of one type of good, but a surfeit of another, while another region had too much of the former good and a shortage of the latter, then the Great Material Continuum would carry the excess of the one region to ease the dearth in the other. Rom noted that the river could be very treacherous. The Continuum formed the moral center for Ferengi society. By successfully navigating the Continuum, a great businessman could ensure that people everywhere benefited from his own self-interest by each receiving what he or she wanted. The Nagus in particular was responsible for standing "at the bow of the Ferengi ship of state," navigating the waters of the Great Material Continuum, avoiding the shoals of bankruptcy and seeking the strong winds of prosperity. Ferengi children were taught about the Continuum when they still had their first set of ears. (DS9: "Progress", "Treachery, Faith and the Great River", "The Dogs of War")
