Purple World works on creating purple books based on real life stories. One of the first purple books coming is “Mental Health Stories”.
This is a book compiled of many different mental health stories or challenges faced, compiled into a book. 50+ real life sharings made into an impactful book to create awareness about mental health and giving thoughts, emotions, feelings, learning and much more directly from people with first-hand experience.
This is your story, your personal sharing of something you've been through and want to express for a positive impact. So what does this story look like? Any sample structure? and how do you begin to write?
A base structure we will have would be:
- Sharing a small background about you or your life, journey so far or anything you want to tell
- Then share your mental health challenge or situation you have been through
- To end this with some kind of a positive note if you wish, or a sign of growth or evolving. You can add something good or positive that happened during or after your challenging time, or maybe a personal note to yourself back then when you were going through something or to someone who was with you during this time or can be anything you want to share
This is flexible based on the way you want to express your story, its just a structure to help give an idea for someone writing their story.
If any of the process below makes you uncomfortable, stressed, remember something you don't want to or anything else please know you don't have to continue with it, there is no stress or any kind of obligation.
We want to make sure that you are feeling very comfortable while sharing this story.
1) Tell us more about you, in your own way to help us create a better setting before we read about your deeper sharing. Something about you, your environment, things you like, don't like, emotions, feelings can be anything you feel like.
2) Tell the story of a “Mental Health” challenge you have faced in your life.
3) Something to look forward to, learn from and create a positive or better journey ahead
This part is mainly to end the sharing with some positive touch to it, maybe some of your personal realizations from the above journey, or maybe about someone who was with you in difficult times. It may be something small but important to you that happened, or can be anything to end the story in a mindset of growth and evolving and taking the tough experience as something to learn from and from there to move ahead.
These are just some hints that might help you find the spark or thought to write upon but be very flexible with the way you want to write YOUR story.
What you are doing is really amazing and we are very grateful for you sharing your personal experience to make this into a very meaningful book 📕.
Be explorative and write it the way you want and don't worry anything regarding how you write it. We will also have some experienced editors working on making corrections to the stories later on. Will get permission from everyone who shares the stories if there a any edits.
—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your story gets to the book, you will have part of the profits made from sales, which we will discuss in detail soon in the future and have an agreement on.
Also if you feel the need to share the story but don't want to reveal your identity, that should also be fine if that makes you more comfortable.
We want to understand you better, and help others better understand you too. This is an opportunity to advocate for you, mental health, and people who might be going through something similar right now.
We are right beside you on the journey of getting this written. There are no constraints on how big or small the sharing should be, other than 1,000 to 2,000 words are preferable.

1) Tell us more about you, in your own way to help us create a better setting before we read about your deeper sharing. Something about you, your environment, things you like, don't like, emotions, feelings can be anything you feel like.
2) Tell the story of a “Mental Health” challenge you have faced in your life.
- Mental health challenge does not necessarily mean mental illness! A mental health challenge can be anything that you faced in your life that was difficult to overcome. We are all human here!
- The key is to share a vulnerability, a struggle, of some sort. A struggle, or vulnerability, that typically is kept private. The point of sharing this is to “break free,” to share a story of resilience and strength in response to a pain.
- Examples of vulnerabilities and pains include mental illness (depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.) but also include so much more:
- Relationship breakups, abuse, challenges with drugs and/or alcohol, unexpected death of friend or family, bullying, getting in trouble, assault and/or harassment, a moment of intense embarrassment, overworking, exhaustion, loneliness, feelings of being misunderstood or not fitting in, academic struggles, etc.
- There are a few goals with this:
- 1) explore a pain to heal a pain, for ourselves. The writing process can help in interpreting our past and processing past challenges.
- 2) humanize mental health. This is not an exclusive issue. We all have pains. We all have ups and downs. If you are human, you have a mental health story. A journey of struggle.
- 3) inspire others with your openness, courage, and strength. By sharing your story, (accepting & overcoming pain), you will inspire others to do the same. There’s incredible power, and release in opening up, and when you understand how those stories may impact others, it gets even better.
- This is your opportunity to advocate for YOU as a human and MENTAL HEALTH as a cause.
- Also share from the emotion or feeling point of view too, what was going on in your mind during that time, what were your thought processes?
3) Something to look forward to, learn from and create a positive or better journey ahead
