REPRINTED FROM EQUISYNC E-NEWSLETTER
"IQ gets you hired. EQ gets you promoted." — Time Magazine
The "Emotionally Intelligent" TPJ --
How Meditation Boosts EQ
What's the most accurate "successful career" forecasting metric? Is it how much of a "smarty-smartpants" we are? Once upon a time, just about every scientist would have answered yes, "IQ" determines how high we can can soar.
Got a perfect SAT score? The CEO's corner office has your name on it. You can memorize 1,000 digits of Pi? There is a senate seat waiting for you. Solve a rubix cube in 6.54 seconds? You are on track to head NASA. Does this happen in the real world? No.
Today, we know better. It's not the super-geniuses that ascend to the top of their respective fields. How high we soar and how far we go has a far more accurate crystal ball.
In 1996, a world-renowned psychologist, Dr. Daniel Goleman, published a groundbreaking book that turned the psychological community on its head.
The Power Of Emotional IntelligenceIn his New York Times international bestseller "Emotional Intelligence: Why It Matters More Than IQ," Dr. Goleman's case for "EQ over IQ" was so compelling that academic textbooks had to be rewritten in his name.
So, what kind of characteristics do these folks display? People high on the EQ chart tend to be masters of both work and play. They usually have prosperous careers, long-lasting, fulfilling relationships, and tons of friends. They are often generous, empathic, self-motivated, with the ability to love and be loved.
Since we aren't born with a fixed amount of this elusive characteristic, figuring out how to "fill up the old EQ tank" has been of particular interest to psychologists in recent years. After all, who doesn't want to be more popular and successful?
How Meditation Builds A Bigger, More Emotionally Intelligent Brain
In 2013, with the goal of mapping out the "EQ" regions of the brain, University of Illinois researchers CT-scanned 152 Vietnam veterans engaging in "emotionally intelligent" centered activities, like (in-person) social interaction.
A landmark finding, the brain map imaging showed one particular region, the "temporoparietal junction (TPJ)," to be especially important. Dubbed the so called EQ "command and control center," figuring out how to strengthen this area of the brain would, in effect, power up emotional intelligence.
"I would love to be popular and successful. But I think my EQ and therefore, my TPJ might be weak. Should I get a brain transplant?"
Save yourself the headache. Meditation's got you covered.
In 2016, a team of Spanish and German researchers (Yang et al) fMRI imaged the brains of 13 meditation newbies before and after 40 days of mindfulness training. What did they find?
In addition to massively reducing their anxiety and depression scores (as illustrated by countless other studies), the meditators' had, in just six short weeks, significantly increased the "internal consistency" of their temporoparietal junction (TPJ).
The Coolest Of The Cool
For those of us looking to climb the career ladder, master social grace, and just do better at life, what does this mean?
By strengthening the brain's "EQ command & control center," meditation opens the door to a wonderful and especially important bundle of traits: self-awareness, adaptability, empathy, conscientiousness, self-motivation, emotional balance, the list goes on.
Meditators have been the coolest of the cool for millennia, now confirmed by science.

S008 - Soul, Source, Self-Empowerment and more...
We Have the IQ, and Need the EQ.
(On the website, active links provide in-depth information.)
Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles, CEO and founder of IOG, co-founder of the Cardano blockchain platform) commented in a video, 'The Cardano community has the IQ, and now needs the EQ.'
That statement became the catalyst for this personal development initiative. Looking at the world, it seems we all need to increase our emotional intelligence, and more. The bickering drama that arises from Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt in the realm of cryptocurrencies and blockchains is just the foreshadowing of something much deeper and darker in humanity.
Humans have been suffering and dying from malicious, unnatural causes since Cain killed Abel. There's compassion in me, but I'm not longer so concerned about tragedies of war and other madness of this type as a greater doom looms on the horizon according to my inner senses. It's not a determined fate, but a crossroads.
In the unfurling doom foreseen, the souls of humankind hang in the balance between being captured in a more binding way then before or ultimately being set free from the lower dimensional earth matrix imprisonment.
The threat comes mainly from bad actors in AGI, globalists, and ideological distortions erupting into exterminationists, genocidists, and death cults who have been positioned in places of leadership around the world by the W.E.F. and other Dark Lords of the NWO Agenda. Some have become soulless, enabling them to commit unthinkable atrocities without remorse.
There are also entities which sustain themselves on human substance and some have taken form to appear human. To these predators, humans not of them are no more than a rabbit which the bush man lops, chops, and puts into his tum tum. It's wild sounding but best to face with dispassionate discernment.
Fear is an unwise motivator, and this harsh reality has to be approached from a position of strength as creator beings who know who they are and can direct and command from the heart space.
Behind the scenes, counterforces currently hold back the tide. Whether that's enough, and what the outcome will be, are not fully predictable. My sense (not infallible) is that the world will eventually split more distinctly into co-existing lower and higher dimensional states of existence, not necessarily accessible to each other.
Either way, dedicated practice towards being more sovereign, self-contained and -sustained individuated units of Source along a journey of exploration and discovery is clearly beneficial if not essential.
Some people immediately shut down and turn off when they hear the truth of what is actually happening in the world.
It's a very dark reality, and many people don't have the emotional resources to face it. A dear family member visited recently, and despite my attempts, we could not discuss it. I had to let go and accept that each of us has our own journey, but it saddened me because awareness is vital to awakening. Divine EQ is needed!'
In response to my posting, @benohanlon wrote, 'Interesting as we've been talking about bridging the gap between IQ and EQ internally, especially in the context of AQ, Adaptability Quotient.'
'The world is changing. Our environment is changing. Where past generations lived much the same lives for hundreds of years, today we do not even lead similar lives to those of our parents and now the speed of change is rapidly accelerating, driven by technological advancements such as AI, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing. It's going to get weird. It's not the most intelligent, strongest or wealthiest that survive. It's those than can adapt and innovate.'
[As an update, in a subsequent talk with that family member, a comment she made indicated she's more open to seeing what is actually happening in the world. I'm no longer a missionary as years ago for Christianity, but any step of whole human evolution lightens my heart.]
Within a person, what aspect has attachments, expectations, cringes, etc.? Is it the soul?
Can a person who desires to live from the soul allow those stickies to cling? Or does there need to be a continual letting go, until only the soul remains?
What does it mean to you, to live from the soul?
