The Impersonal Life, Chapter XIII
AUTHORITY
To you who still feel the desire to read books, thinking in them to find an explanation of the mysteries that now hide from you the meaning of the earthly expressions of My Idea, I say:

... the time will come when you will realize that the thoughts of other minds  and the teachings of other religions, no matter how true and beautiful, are not what I intend for you; for I have reserved for you thoughts and teachings which are yours and yours only, and which I will give to you in secret—when you are ready to receive them.

... for you it is now meant that you cease looking to any outer authority, and instead confine your study to My Book of Life, guided and instructed by Me within, by Me alone. If you earnestly and truly do this, you will find that I have chosen you to be the High Priest of a religion, the glory and grandeur of which will be to all others that have been pictured to your former understanding, as the light of the Sun is to the twinkle of the far distant star.

You will likewise realize that the ancient religions were given to My peoples of long ages past, and that the religions of other races are for My peoples of those races, and that none of these are for you; even though I brought them to you and pointed out many wondrous things in them that inspired you to a more determined search for Me within their teachings.

I say to you, these are things of the past and have naught to do with you. The time has arrived, if you can see it, when you must cast aside all accumulated knowledge, all teachings, all religions, all authority, even My authority as expressed in this and My other outer revelations; for I have quickened you to the consciousness of My Presence within, to the fact that all authority, teachings and religions, coming from any outer source, no matter how lofty or sacred, can no longer have any influence with you, except as they become a means of turning you within to Me, for My final authority on all questions of whatsoever nature.

... In the meantime you are chained fast. Your personality, with its selfish desires and selfish seeking, is still bound hand and foot to the past, and looks only to the future for its deliverance, after the final wearing out of all the consequences of its acts; dominating your mind and intellect with this false belief in birth and death,  and that such is your only way to final emancipation and union with Me; preventing the realization of Our Eternal and  Ever-Constant Oneness, and that You can free your Self any moment You will.

....

It is only to this personality that you are bound, by the benefits and opinions it has engrafted on you back through the ages, during which it has kept your human mind busied with such delusions. It is only when you can rise up in the realization of your Divine Immortality, Omnipotence and Intelligence, and can cast off all personal beliefs and opinions, that you can free your Self from this perverted relation, and can assume your true position as Master and King, One with Me, seated upon the Throne of SELF, compelling the personality to take its proper and natural place as servant and subject, ready and willing to obey My slightest command, thereby becoming an instrument worthy of My Use.

Jesus answered [Pilate], “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above.” (John 19:11)

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (Matthew 28:18 ESV

The Impersonal Life, Chapter XII
SOUL MATES

Chapter 12 starts out,

"Perhaps the particular position in life you now occupy you do not think the best adapted for the expression of My Idea surging within you.

"If so, then why not step out of that position into the one of your choice?

"The mere fact that you cannot or do not do this proves that at this time such position is the one best suited to awaken in you certain qualities necessary for My perfect expression, and that I, your own Self, AM permitting you to remain therein, until you can recognize my Purpose and Meaning hidden within the power such position has to disturb your peace of mind and keep you thus dissatisfied.

"When you recognize My Meaning and determine to make My Purpose your purpose, then and then only will I give you the strength to step out of that position into a higher I have provided for you.

"Perhaps the husband or the wife you have, you think is far from being suited to you or capable of helping along your “spiritual” awakening, being only a hindrance and detriment, instead. You may even be secretly contemplating leaving or wishing you could leave that one for another who sympathizes and joins with you in your aspirations and seeking, and therefore seems more nearly your ideal.

"You may run away if you will, but know that you cannot run away from your own personality; that, in selfish craving for a “spiritual” mate you may attract only one who will force you to a tenfold longer and harder search among the illusions of the mind, before you can again awaken to the consciousness of My Voice speaking within."

....

"The time will come, however, when you cease to look without for love and sympathy, appreciation and spiritual help, and turn wholly to Me within, that these seeming imperfections will disappear; and you will see in this mate only the reflection of qualities of unselfish love, gentleness, trust, a constant endeavor to make the other happy, that will then be shining brightly and continuously from out your own heart.

"Perhaps you cannot yet wholly believe all this, and you still question that I, your own Self, am responsible for your present position in life, or that I chose for you your present mate?

"If so, it is well for you thus to question until all is made plain.

"But remember, I will speak much more clearly direct from within, if you but turn trustingly to Me for help. For I ever preserve My Holiest secrets for those who turn to Me in deep, abiding Faith that I can and will supply their every need.

"To you, however, who cannot yet do this, I say, if your own Self did not place you here or provide this mate, Why then are you here? and Why have you this mate?"

...

"As for your true “Soul Mate,” which you have been led by others to believe must be waiting for you somewhere, cease looking; for it exists not without in some other body, but within your own Soul.

"For that within you which cries out for completion is only your sense of Me within, yearning for recognition and expression; Me, your own Divine Counterpart, the Spiritual part of you, your other half, to which and which alone you must be united, before you can finish what you came on Earth to express.

"This is indeed a mystery to you who are not yet wedded in consciousness to your Impersonal Self; but doubt not, when you can come to Me in complete surrender,  and will care for naught else than union with Me, then will I disclose to you the sweets of the Celestial Ecstasy I have long kept in reserve for you."

Chapter 12 says, in essence, that 'soul-mating' oneself ('being O.B.' - the One Being, one's own True Self) enables and supports a twin flame or soul mate relationship. This aligns with my own life experiences.

'Is Destiny Real?' tells how my partner and I met.

Circumstances & Opportunities

After writing the last post, my thoughts returned to a 'Live and Dare' newsletter titled, "To hell with circumstances! I create opportunities."

The heading quote is from Bruce Lee. Following my curiosity to know more about this man led me to the Bruce Lee Podcast [1] and sayings by Bruce on BrainyQuotes. [2]

Through this reading I gained a deeper understanding and respect for Bruce Lee, whose name I only vaguely associated with martial arts movies not seen.

Giovanni's newsletter on circumstances and opportunities follows (in my mind) the last Whole Human post, "Use", where I wrote:

Another way is to consciously remain in the midst of challenging personas and situations, and thereby grow stronger. Note this is not the same as the perspective of Friedrich Nietzsche, 'That which does not kill us makes us stronger.' [3]

As 'The Impersonal Life' says, we encounter no challenging aspects in others which are not still carried in ourselves. I add, the gift of the challenge is the opportunity it gives to become aware of what is in me and thereby make a shift in myself towards living from the pure consciousness of the True Self.

A challenging situation is where I am now, with my agreement, until such time as I am called to a new assignment. While trusting the I AM that being where 'I am' has a higher purpose, the hunger for a lifestyle where my talents are well-used remains. According to T.I.L., as I interpret it, this hunger is also according to the original blueprint.

In earlier years, I was all about making things happen, creating opportunities, goal setting, time management, to-do lists and networking with objectives. Now, I am done with doing. I have no agenda, goals or ambitions. Being done with doing does not mean that practical actions end. It changes the way of doing. In the practice of being a whole human, there is no doing — there is only acting in the flow.

For me, the goal-setting, 'To Do' lists and measuring a day by a sense of productivity and accomplishment have ended. I am far more interested in the quality of attention I give to the moment. My days are full and rewarding. Living a meditative (mindful, present) life is the whole human way. It is applied to every moment, every breath, every action. My primary focus and passion are to experience being a whole human. - from the About page

The message of Bruce Lee feels like a message from life to me. Like water, I seek my level and balance, and to merge with what is. I do not feel limited by circumstances, but apply the lessons they offer to my conscious unfolding rather than exert effort to change them. Then the changes of circumstances will occur naturally, in the timing and way of the True Self.

Giovanni's newsletter is 'reprinted' below with permission.

Live and Dare Inspiration - #11

Reflection

We many times may feel oppressed by our circumstances. “If only this was different… If only I had more time/money… If only my kids were already grown up now… If only I had started this project 3 years ago…”

This line of thinking is deeply disempowering. It makes us feel like a victim. It makes us not access the power and fulfilment we would otherwise have, if we dared to changed our ways of looking at things. That is why I love Bruce Lee’s quote.

Sometimes all we need is to ignore the circumstances, and take a step forward. To allow serendipity to happen; to give space for the unexpected, for the gracious, and for the glory to create the opportunities we dream we had.

It is the experience of many that, once we give a decisive step in a meaningful direction, things start happening. The universe starts responding.

Exercise

Are you allowing your circumstances to have the best of you, to limit you?

What would happen if you would use those circumstances as stepping stones on your path?

Is it possible that you are using your circumstances as an excuse to leave things as they are?

Happy growing,

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. - Bruce Lee

Episode 7 of Season 2 of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' is titled 'Unnatural Selection.' In it, the crew grapples with a mysterious disease which accelerates the aging process, causing humans to die of old age within a matter of days.

The disease affects the DNA, and the solution at the end is to cause the transporter to filter out all but the person's original DNA which is stored in the computer program (as in the image above.)

This science fiction contains a particle of truth, as human DNA is blocked and not fully activated. It is like the original design for fully realized humans was manipulated with blocking agents.

The Star trek analogy has been useful in visualizations where my attention scans my own DNA (from head to feet or bottoms of feet to top of head) and 'filters out' all but that which belongs to the original design. I then give the dross, after asking, to my spiritual team either underneath me in the earth or above my head, and give thanks.

Scanning my body now. I filter out all which does not belong to the original design of my DNA for a fully realized human.

Practitioners of Goenka Vipassana meditation also do a body scan, as described in the article 'Investigating the Body’s Reality' from Insight Meditation Online:

"... at the beginning of a sitting session, check to see if the body is relaxed and if at any time during the session you notice that the body has tensed, do a body scan, that is, scan the body part-by-part, relaxing each region as the awareness moves through the body, while softening into any tension or contraction you find. If the body is contracted so must be the mind. Be open and allowing, as the practice is about receptivity and openness, allowing a ‘tuning in’ to what actually is manifesting." [1]

A meditation practice can be highly beneficial and a page on this site offers some excellent resources. After experiencing a variety of meditation techniques, I choose to simply live a meditative life and bring awareness of the One Being as my True Self into daily actions.

Chapter 11 of 'The Impersonal Life' says that the proving of one's realization is the practical use of it in service to the I AM (creative source, pure consciousness, True Self, O.B.)

While writing the above, my 4 year old grand-daughter wanted help turning off the water that was filling her swimming pool. In times past, I felt resistance towards having my writing repeatedly 'interrupted.' This time, instead, I laughed to myself and got up to turn off the water as a service to the I AM in her and in me. When one is wholly living the One Being-True Self, there is no such thing as an interruption.

There is a fine line, however, between serving the I AM of us all and the O.B.-absent awareness of personas who demand attention and seek control. I have encountered this especially in life assignments as a therapeutic couple and house parent with my partner — caring for seniors, other-enabled adults and at-risk teenage youth. Can I give a controller what they want while serving the One Being?

It is no wonder that some retreat from the world and avoid interactions altogether. There is nothing wrong with that, and the idea is tempting. Another way is to consciously remain in the midst of challenging personas and situations, and thereby grow stronger. Note this is not the same as the perspective of Friedrich Nietzsche, 'That which does not kill us makes us stronger.' [2]

As 'The Impersonal Life' says, we encounter no challenging aspects in others which are not still carried in ourselves. I add, the gift of the challenge is that it affords an opportunity to become aware of what is in me and thereby make a shift in myself towards living from the pure consciousness of the True Self.

A challenging situation is where I am now, with my agreement, until such time as I am called to a new assignment. While trusting the I AM that being where 'I am' has a higher purpose, the hunger for a lifestyle where my talents are well-used remains. According to T.I.L., as I interpret it, that hunger is also in service to the original design.

The Impersonal Life, Chapter XI
USE

These Chapter 11 excerpts speak to the themes running through the Whole Human blog posts:

Therefore, as I begin to awaken in you a realization that I AM within, and more and more cause your human consciousness to become an Impersonal channel through which I can express, will I gradually reveal to you the Reality of My Idea, dissipating one by one the illusions of the ages which have hidden Me from you, enabling Me thereby to manifest through you My Heavenly Attributes of Earth in all their humanly Divine perfection.

...

Before you can become conscious of all this and can truly comprehend it, you and your human personality must make it possible for Me to reveal it, by turning within to Me as the One and Only Source, bringing to Me your measure absolutely empty of self, and with mind and heart as simple and trusting as those of a child.

Then and then only, when nothing of the personal consciousness remains to prevent My filling you full to overflowing with the consciousness of Me, can I point out to you the glories of My Real Meaning, for which this whole Message is but the outer preparation.

...

Just so will You soon be thinking My Thoughts, and be conscious that I AM speaking within directly to your human consciousness, and you will then no longer have to come to this book or to any other of My outer Revelations, either spoken or written, in order to perceive My Meaning.

...

All that remains for you to do is to enter into the All-consciousness of My Mind and abide there with Me, even as I abide within My Idea in Your Mind. Then all things shall be Yours, as they now are Mine, being but the outer expression of My Idea, and existing only by reason of the consciousness I gave them when I thought them into being.

It is all a matter of consciousness—of your conscious thinking. You are separated from Me only because you think you are. Your mind is but a focal point of My Mind. If you but knew it, what you call your consciousness is My Consciousness. You cannot even think, much less breathe or exist without My Consciousness being in you,—Can you not see it?

Well, then, think, believe you are I, that We are not separated, that We could not possibly be separated; for WE are ONE,— I within You, and You within Me, Think this is so; determinedly image it as so; and verily the moment you are conscious of this, that moment are you with Me in Heaven.

...

This book and its message will be to you hereafter merely a fount of inspiration, or      a door through which you will be enabled to enter into the Impersonal estate and to hold sweet communion with Me, your Father in Heaven, when I will teach you all things you desire to know.

...

Yes, all things you receive have their use.  If you are not conscious of such use, it is only because you can not yet acknowledge Me as The Giver.

You could not honestly acknowledge Me as such until you knew I AM, The Giver. Your personality, in fact, had become so engrossed in trying to get rid of or to exchange many of the things I had given you for other things you thought were better, that of course you could not even dream, much less acknowledge, Me, Your Own Self, as The Giver.

Possibly you do now acknowledge Me as The Giver, as the Inner Essence and Creator of all things in your world and in your life, even of your present attitude toward these things.

Both are My doing, for they are but the outer phases of the process I AM using in the expression of My Idea of your inner Perfection, which Perfection being My Perfection is gradually unfolding from within you.

...

Yes, all these I may be doing through you, but of absolutely no benefit is any of it to you personally, unless you use and apply these harmonies of sound in your every spoken word, so that to all hearers they will seem as the sweet music of heaven; and unless your sense of color and proportion so manifests in your life that only kind, uplifting, helpful thoughts flow from you, proving that the only true art is that of seeing clearly My Perfection in all My human expressions, and of allowing the quickening power of My Love to pour through you into their heart, picturing to their inner vision My Image hidden therein.

...

You at the time will probably know nothing of this. You may even be still longing to serve Me, and hungering for a more intimate consciousness of Me, thinking you are doing nothing, are still making many mistakes and failing to live up to your highest ideals of Me; not realizing that this longing and hungering is the avenue through which I pour forth My Spiritual Power, which being wholly Impersonal, is used by you, unconscious of its being I within you using it, to bring about My Purpose in your heart and life and in the hearts and lives of My and Your other Selves.

So, as you finally grow into the realization of all this, as you surely will, and prove it by the practical use of all you have in My service, will I gradually give you the strength and ability consciously to use Impersonally My Power, My Wisdom, and My Love, in the expression of My Divine Idea, which is eternally striving to manifest through You Its Perfection.

Therefore will you soon see that your human personality, with all its faculties, powers and possessions, which are in reality Mine operating and manifesting through you, is likewise for My use wholly, and that true success and satisfaction can never be found except in such use.

For such use develops, as the planted seed develops the harvest, the ability consciously to use all My Spiritual faculties in the final perfect expression of My Idea, which can be expressed only through your human personality.

Beyond the Idea of Good and Evil

'Spiritual traditions, systems and techniques often refer to emptying the mind of self-limiting thoughts. Attention to 'outer' sensations diminishes and mindfulness (awareness of the inner life) is allowed to arise. For example,

"When meditation brings us to the point where self-talk ceases, the mind is anything but blank. Instead it’s full — full of an awareness of those sensations, feelings, emotions, and images. I like to think of this as one of the meanings of mindfulness – 'mind-full-ness,' or the mind being so full that there’s no need for, and no room for, inner self-talk." [1]

Deeper still is pure consciousness (PC), which has been experienced in and out of meditation. One person said of his experience, "I was left with a sense of refreshment, of having drunk deeply the blissful nectar of a timeless far away realm of Being."

Timeless, yes. Being, yes. Far away? Perhaps as perceived from the world of sensations, from the world of agendas, objectives, and to-do lists. But in actuality, this Being is one's own True Self and the Absolute Self of all that is. Nothing will effect a substantive change - individually and globally - like coming to this realization and embodying it in actions of everyday life.

How does one experience PC, "the blissful nectar of Being"? Meditation can be one way, but it is not necessary to meditate or practice any technique. The article, 'Pure Consciousness/Mystical Experiences' excerpted below recites examples like Charles Lindbergh's report of his solo flight across the Atlantic and that of a college student with no previous experience of transpersonal psychology or mystical experiences, who had a life threatening automobile accident.

Nature loves diversity and each human is individual. There are no manuals for living from pure consciousness. There is nothing I can do towards it, and PC cannot be achieved. It can be allowed, it can be surrendered to by the persona. I can bring it more into my awareness by returning my mind to the One Being. Just by saying within or out loud, 'One Being,' and knowing in my heart that O.B. is my true Self, I am closer to living the greater reality.

How can I know this is more than an intellectual exercise and not just another illusion? One evidence that the True Self (pure consciousness) is being lived through me is provided when the qualities of the One Being, universal love, emanate from my life in actions — whatever provocation or challenge may come.

I. Pure Consciousness/Mystical Experiences

"There is a central psychospiritual state of consciousness for which there is now adequate scientific evidence that the experience of it is healthy, life enhancing, and promotes development. It is pure consciousness. Several other transpersonal experiences can be understood as clustering in some way around or leading to this central experience.

"But what is pure consciousness (PC)?

"Alexander, Chandler and Boyer (1990) define PC as 'a silent state of inner wakefulness with no object of thought or perception.' They hold that it is conditioned not simply by cultural or intellectual elements, but by fundamental psycho-physiological conditions which are universally available across cultures. Qualities of this state are implicated in their expanded definition:

"If pure consciousness is without content, it would be, ..., non-changing because there is no content in it that could change. It would be simple because without content, there are no parts. It would be completely one, having no diversity of content. It would be self-referring, because there is nothing other than itself to refer to or know. It would be unbounded because there is no bounded content of awareness to engage or limit awareness.

"A meditator describes this experience:

"'I was meditating one late afternoon when I began to settle down much more deeply than usual. As I became more and more still, all thoughts and feelings settled and I was left in a deep quietness. All familiar boundaries that defined where I was and what time it was, and even who I was, began to fade from awareness and dissolve altogether. I was still awake and yet all that remained was my own wakefulness . . .

"'There was nothing else. No trace of thought or memory entered into my awareness; even the sense of my body and its position in space had vanished. It's not that I missed these things. It simply did not enter my awareness to miss them or not to miss them.

"'For an indefinitely long time I remained in that state of perfectly simple wakefulness. How long I could not have guessed, for there was no measure in my awareness by which to judge the passage of time. Then, slowly, the world began to be reconstituted around me.

"'At first some faint sensation of my body and surroundings returned; then some sense of where I was and what time it was; then some sense of my person, my projects, engagements, relations, and all those forms of awareness that make up the sense of our everyday world. The world returned to me and was organized and constructed into all the layers of awareness that make up our sense of reality.

"'I was left with a sense of refreshment, of having drunk deeply the blissful nectar of a timeless far away realm of Being. At that moment, my whole body and mind experienced a rush of blissful joy and well being.'"

[2]

Anand Mehotra of The Shift Network explains that, “ultimately, we are all looking for God experience, meaning an experience of aliveness, of expansion.”

"However, the capacity to experience God in time-bound existence is severely limited, for the mind, or ego, is trapped within space-time. Seek expansion, and you will experience contraction.

The finite mind is incapable of perceiving that which is infinite. The mind, which relies on the senses for its information, is fundamentally unable to lead you to God.

We have no sense that can reveal knowledge of Him; the senses give knowledge only of His manifestations. No thought or inference can enable us to know Him as He truly is, for thought cannot go beyond the data of the senses; it can only arrange and interpret the impressions of the senses.
— Paramahansa Yogananda

"While you may intellectually accept the existence of God as an idea, this idea is like all ideas: a detached mental construct unable to satisfy your deep longing for love and connection.

"Life is willing to reveal its mysteries only when you become aware of that which exists beyond your awareness.

"When you are anchored in a profound, absolute state of self, says Anand, you will be fearless, and experience all of life with deep equanimity.

"'That does not mean you won’t have movement of emotion,' he acknowledges. 'But beyond that movement is a profound field of awareness, a profound field of stillness.'"

[3]

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I will meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about
language, ideas, even the phrase each other
doesn't make any sense.

Good and Evil (Ch. 10 of 'The Impersonal Life')

The Impersonal Life, Chapter X
GOOD AND EVIL
Picture

"In the Garden of Eden, where you abode before entering upon your Earthly mission, there grew this tree whose fruit is called the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

"While dwelling in the Garden you were still wholly Impersonal, for you had not yet tasted of this fruit." - Chapter 10

In 'The Impersonal Life,', we are told that early humans saw Good as being what was pleasing and Evil what was not. What do other sources say?

A Wikipedia article begins,

"In religion, ethics, philosophy and psychology "good and evil" is a very common dichotomy. In cultures with Manichaean and Abrahamic religious influence, evil is usually perceived as the dualistic antagonistic opposite of good, in which good should prevail and evil should be defeated."

Wikipedia goes on to say essentially,

"In cultures with Buddhist spiritual influence, both good and evil are perceived as part of an antagonistic duality that itself must be overcome through achieving Sunyata. This means emptiness in the sense of recognition of good and evil being opposing principles but not a reality. Over this oneness is achieved."

Oneness is the actuality of the underlying foundation of everything. How can something that already is, be achieved? Oneness is a state to realize, experience and live. Unity often requires effort, and is something different. Oneness is effortless.

The perception of dualistic antagonistic opposites of good and evil is certainly at the root of suffering, along with automatic and reactive thinking and emotion-based desire. These have been programmed into our minds.

"Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other." - Eric Burdon

As to the idea that good and evil cannot exist without each other, I propose it is not so. The One Being, my definition of Good, is self-existent. It emits itself from within all existence. Its central quality is nurturing, non-local, unconditional love. Certainly its absence from awareness and actions is at the core of all we consider to be morally evil. Programmed ideas such as that evil and suffering are necessary, are part of the history but not the future of humankind. However, such a shift in consciousness will not likely happen without some spectacular global event.

The front page of USA Today for July 18, 2016 blared TRUMP NATION and highlighted photos of people who identify with the presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

I wonder how many global citizens would identify with an O.B. Nation. Perhaps a handful. But it is the only nation to which I belong.

What is another way to look at Good and Evil? This is my perspective:

Good is the presence of the non-local pure consciousness I call the One Being. Evil is its absence. Although O.B. fills everything everywhere with its presence, humans are blocked from experiencing it by their programmed minds. Experiencing oneness is effortless once the mind is de-programmed.

Chapter 10 says,

"So, through your mistakes and troubles and sufferings, Desire for relief caused the Idea of Evil to spring up in your mind, and likewise when these troubles were not It inspired the Idea of Good.

In the Garden of Eden, where you abode before entering upon your Earthly mission, there grew this tree whose fruit is called the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
...

"During the latter ages you have been, as it were, gradually throwing off layer after layer of human consciousness, dissipating the mist or glamour thrown around your mind by the intellect; subduing, controlling, spiritualizing, and thus clarifying the intellect itself; until now you are beginning to awaken and to see, through the ever thinning remaining layers, occasional glimpses of Me, the one Great Reality, within all things."

...

"The endless flow of the Seasons,—the Spring, with its busy sowing; the Summer, with its warm, restful ripening; the Autumn, with its bounteous harvesting; the Winter, with its cool, peaceful plenty, year after year, life after life, century after century, age after age—are only the outbreathing of My Idea as I inspire It forth through the Earth and through You, My Attribute, and through all My other Attributes, during the process of unfolding in outer manifest state the perfection of My Nature."

The Impersonal Life, Chapter IX
THE GARDEN OF EDEN

In response to 'The Impersonal Life,' this summarizes my current feelings about the origins of life, the nature of existence, and the place of humankind in the grand scheme:

Origin

The creative source, the unmoved mover, O.B., emanates itself.

O.B.'s high frequency emanations generate wavicles and particles carrying attributes and information which created Nature.

Nature

Nature, the whole of the natural forces and laws powered by O.B.'s emanations, designs for the efficient and sustainable expansion and homeostasis of the multi-verse of existence.

O.B., pure consciousness, fills with its presence nature's designs and expresses itself through them.

Humankind

Humans are blocked from experiencing O.B.'s presence by their own minds and are in the midst of a game, a maze, a challenge, designed by Nature to prepare the willing human vessel for emanating the high frequencies of the I AM as conscious expressions in this dimension of the originating source.

The One Being is the True Self of each human and of all that is.

Many are the attention-grabbing distractions, dulling familiarities and mental entrapments on the journey towards fulfilling the original design for humanity, which is already fulfilled, but not yet realized.

Even study of a book like 'The Impersonal Life' or practice of a time-honored tradition, or dedication to a popular teacher can actually be a detour from living with simple, effortless, natural awareness of the True Self and its emanating characteristics and qualities.

Strip out the excess words and savor the essence of the message which is individually to you. Feel the One Being within.

Excerpts from Chapter Nine of 'The Impersonal Life':

"This Message is to awaken you to a realization of what You are, to a realization of your real Self. It is intended to make you once more conscious of Me, your Divine Self, so conscious that never again will you be deceived by that other self, which you have imagined as being you and which so long has lured you on by feeding you with its unsatisfying sense pleasures, its mental dissipations and emotional delights."

...

"In this manner and for this reason alone did You and Your Brothers and Sisters come into human expression. While in human form yet Your expression was so entirely Impersonal, that, though self-conscious, you still looked wholly to Me within for inspiration and guidance.

"This, then, was the first condition into which You awakened when You entered into Earth expression, and is what is called the Edenic state or dwelling in the Garden of Eden.

"This Edenic state represents the Celestial phase of Impersonal Consciousness, or that state in which You were still consciously One with Me, though now confined in a mortal medium of expression.

"Now, I shall not tell you in detail how or why it became necessary for Me to 'drive' You (now manifesting as Man or Humanity) out of the Garden of Eden, other than to remind you of the part that Desire plays in Earth expression, and its relation to My Will; how it centers your interest in outer things and makes you forget Me within."

...

"Now, perhaps, you can see why this all had to be, why You (Humanity) had to leave the Edenic state of Impersonal Consciousness and lose Your Self wholly in  the earth illusions of this Dream World, in order to be able to create a body and develop in it a personal or self consciousness capable of fully expressing My Perfection.

"Thus was born Your human personality, and since its birth have I impelled You to nourish, support and strengthen it, by filling You with longings, hopes, ambitions, and aspirations, with all the various manifestations of Desire; which are but the human phases of My Will, operating in the preparation and development of a medium capable of expressing perfectly My Attributes on Earth."

...

"In the Impersonal there is no use or necessity for words. Ideas alone exist and express. They simply Are, for they are the expression of the various phases of My Being."

My Idea (Ch. 8 of 'The Impersonal Life')

Chapter 8 begins,

"You have been told that the Earth and all things belonging to it are but the outer manifestations of My Idea, which is now in the process of being thought into perfect expression.

"You have been shown that My Idea is responsible for all created things, and that It is both the Cause and the Reason for all manifestations, yourself and your brothers and sisters included, all of which have been thought into existence by Me, the One Original Thinker and Creator."

Is it so? What actually is the origin of all?

There are various scenarios for the actual origins of life, the nature of existence, and the place of humankind in the grand scheme of things such as — there is:

a 'supreme authority and law-maker' e.g., YHWH, who demands strict obedience, compares himself with other gods and sends 'his people' into war against those who don't serve him, or

a 'heavenly father' who created humans (through the Elohim?) and sent his only-begotten son to save 'his children' from their condition of sin or

an 'I AM' of pure consciousness with an idea and a will, who set into motion the process of manifestation. According to 'The Impersonal Life,' the 'big idea' (big-eyed deer) is that the I AM will shine forth perfectly and become fully manifest through humans.... or,

there was a random event or series of events in which humans developed over millions of years from the process of biological evolution.

The first two seem to depict a rather personal God and the last two are more impersonal. Of what value is it to know the nature and character and purposes, if any, of the Unmoved Mover? It is of all value to those who have set upon the journey of realizing themselves as the One Being in human form. Is that vision the fulfillment of an idea of the I AM, part of the design of nature for the expansion of a conscious universe, or a potential which naturally reveals itself in the unfolding mystery? Only by knowing O.B. intimately will I ever know.

Peter Kreeft, Ph.D., a professor of philosophy at Boston College, writes,

"Now the whole universe is a vast, interlocking chain of things that come into existence. Each of these things must therefore have a cause. My parents caused me, my grandparents caused them, et cetera. But it is not that simple. I would not be here without billions of causes, from the Big Bang through the cooling of the galaxies and the evolution of the protein molecule to the marriages of my ancestors.

"The universe is a vast and complex chain of causes. But does the universe as a whole have a cause? Is there a first cause, an uncaused cause, a transcendent cause of the whole chain of causes? If not, then there is an infinite regress of causes, with no first link in the great cosmic chain. If so, then there is an eternal, necessary, independent, self-explanatory being with nothing above it, before it, or supporting it. It would have to explain itself as well as everything else, for if it needed something else as its explanation, its reason, its cause, then it would not be the first and uncaused cause. Such a being would have to be God, of course. If we can prove there is such a first cause, we will have proved there is a God."

Here is another scenario. The Nameless One, given many names by humans, is someone or something not accessible for dissection by human thought. To me, O.B. (the One Being) is my True Self and the True Self of all that is. Pure consciousness. Universal, unconditional love. We have no words for it, really. All that has ever been experienced or known by humans is the surf on the shore of a vast ocean.

In this scenario, the first events of creation were set in motion by the emanation of O.B.'s own qualities and presence. Waves of these emanations formed the first sub-atomic particles, which joined to atoms, to molecules and so on. Forces of nature came into existence to give order, balance and design to the manifestation in matter of the One Being. But, is it motivated by what O.B. wills — or powered by what O.B. is?

'The Impersonal Life' goes on to say,

"We will now trace the course of that Idea from the beginning, through Its various stages of Earth expression, as well as the process of My Thinking that Idea into Its present state of manifestation.

"In the beginning, at the dawn of a new Cosmic Day, when the Word consciousness was just awakening and the stillness of Cosmic Night yet prevailed, I The THINKER, conceived My Idea.

"This My Idea of My Self in manifestation in a new condition, called Earth expression, I saw completely pictured in the mirror of My Omniscient Mind. In this mirror I saw the real Earth shining forth brilliantly in the Cosmos,—a perfect Sphere, where all the Infinite phases, attributes and powers of My Divine Nature were finding perfect expression through  the medium of Angels of Light, living Messengers of My Will, My Word in the Flesh, even as It is in the Celestial World of the Eternal.

"I saw My Self manifesting outwardly as Nature, and My Life as the vivifying and evolving Principle back of all Manifestation. I saw Love, the Divine Creative Power, as the animating and vitalizing Force back of all Life, and My Desire to give perfect expression to that Love as the Potential and Real Cause and Reason of the birth of My Idea.

Further on, Chapter 8 says that in reality the I AM has no Desire, "for I AM All Things, and All Things are of Me." With this I agree. Then the author wrote, "I need only to think and Speak the Word to produce results," and this sounds like a human perspective.

I question that O.B. thinks, speaks or is interested at all in producing results. My sense is that O.B. simply is, and Nature (powered by O.B.'s emanations) creates and evolves for effective overall sustainability. Nature is the intelligent designer, and removing the One Being from it would be like taking the batteries out of your favorite toy.

In my imagination, O.B. and Nature are having a conversation. O.B. refers to "my idea" of evolution, culminating in a human who would consciously express the One Being. Nature shoots back, "Hey, it was my idea first!"

Does Nature have a mandate from O.B.? That would imply a will of the One Being, and it doesn't feel that way to me. However, as a natural happening, nature provides the vehicle for the expression and expansion of the One Being. Beyond that, Nature apparently loves diversity and has developed its own laws to maintain homeostasis in the multi-verse.

While emanating itself, O.B. gives certain qualities and characteristics to the particles and wavicles. Those beam outward, filtered by immense distances to a diluted form which we third dimensional humans experience as the eternal qualities, such as compassion, courage and confidence. Distortion, fragmentation, interference and the deliberate deception of certain entities make earth life and the experience of absolute reality a more challenging game.

The multi-verse of existence is full of life in all dimensions. Some of those life forms have been involved in earth life and are characterized by humans as gods or angels or aliens. For me, focusing on them is a distraction and vain speculation — unless Life brings them directly into my awareness and experience. I am happy to know the One Being and be, along with O.B. and Nature, the kaleidoscope of creation turning, the mystery unfolding.

Is there more we can know about the One Being? We can only know O.B., not about it. Any experience of O.B. framed into words has lost the potency and essence of the experience. I have a feeling that O.B. observes, expresses and perhaps experiments and can be known by humans in a unique, intimate and conscious way.

O.B. fills everything, but humans can experience pure consciousness only to the extent individual awareness doesn't prevent it by its preconceptions, limitations and constrictions. O.B. will only go in individual consciousness where it is invited.

'The Impersonal Life' goes on to say,

"In the Eternal there is no Time, or Space, or Individuality, and it is only by reason of the phenomenon of Thought being born from the womb of Mind into the world of Matter that the illusions of Time, Space and Individuality occur; the thought, or Creature, acquiring the consciousness of separateness from its Thinker or Creator."

The Impersonal Life, Chapter VII
THE WORD

'The Impersonal Life' says that ALL ideas and thoughts originate from the I AM. Even fragmented thoughts and misconstructions of the mind which are the root of so much suffering ultimately serve the grand purpose of Source.

Yes, if the observer backs away into space from the chaos and despair of human life, watching as the earth grows smaller and the cries grow muted, and considers that as Friedrich Nietzsche said, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger," then perhaps it is so.

However, according to the Wikipedia article, Nietsche towards the end of his life was 'taking huge doses of opium,' 'embittered by feelings of revenge and resentment,' and 'suffered a mental collapse.'

That seems the hard way.

Why take the hard way? There is another way, one that is easier, smoother, more joyful and more directly connected with one's own True Self, the True Self of all that is. In my stage of life, after experiencing the hard way, I am more and more attracted to simplify. My lifestyle is now much simpler, more fluid, more adaptable, more present and insightful. I am also simplifying my way of seeing life to these:

Know O.B.
Know O.B.'s Idea
Know O.B. and Me

'Know' here used means intimate knowing, sensing, feeling, being one with. These three are becoming the central reference points of my daily life and give a direction for writing ahead, beyond this commentary.

'The Impersonal Life' refers again and again to these themes, in the author's language and from his perspective. So much has been written about such things as the origins of life, the nature of existence, and the place of humankind in the grand scheme. To me, it is all a lot of verbiage with little practical effectiveness.

The basics are simple. To be of any value, the communication of them must be simplified. I have taken note of this, and sharpened my pencil to reduce the waste of words. 'The Impersonal Life' is still one of the most potent texts on the subject I've encountered, and writing a simplified companion from my perspective is still an idea in the incubator.

From Chapter 7,

"Man believes he thinks, but before he has awakened to a realization of Me within he only takes the thoughts I attract to or inspire in his mind, and, mistaking their real meaning and purpose, places a personal construction upon them and, through the selfish desires thus aroused, creates for himself all his troubles and brings upon himself all his woes.

"These apparent mistakes, misconstructions and interferences of man are in reality only the obstacles in his way to be overcome, that he may, through the overcoming, finally develop a body and mind strong and clean and capable enough to express perfectly and consciously this Idea of Mine eternally working within his Soul."

There is a significant distinction between effortless thought which arises from pure consciousness and analytical, rational thinking and reasoning.

Conscious thought from a higher plane arrives effortlessly.  It is expansive and nurturing. Automatic, reactive, overly-focused or random thinking separates me from the experience of life, constricting me out of a felt relationship with the present moment.  Thought received while attending to aspects of pure consciousness and attuned to higher frequencies, more likely will reflect the highest choices for manifesting an original idea of creative source.

'The Impersonal Life' goes on to say,

"Man, then, is only the organism I AM thus preparing through which to manifest the perfection of My Idea. He provides the personality, with its body, mind and intellect, through which I can express this Idea perfectly, the physical brain with which I can think and speak It into outer manifestation.

"I plant in man’s brain an Idea—any idea. That idea would grow, mature and speedily ripen into complete outer fruition or manifestation,—if man only would let  it, would give his mind and all its thoughts, his heart and all its desires wholly over to Me, and let Me come forth as the perfect fulfillment of that Idea."

...

"Now, a word to the human understanding is a symbol of an Idea; that is, it stands for, embodies, and represents an Idea.

"You are a Word, a symbol of an Idea, if you can see it. So is a diamond, a violet,    a horse.

"When you can discern the idea back of the symbol, then you know the soul or the reality of the manifestation appearing as a man, a diamond, a horse, a violet.

"Hence, a word... means an Idea, an Idea latent and unmanifest, however, waiting to be expressed, or thought and spoken forth, in some form or another."

...

"This, My Idea, therefore, is now in the process of unfoldment or of being thought into outer expression—some call it evolution,—just as is the flower when the bud puts forth from the stalk and finally opens into the blossom, obeying the urge to express My Idea hidden within its soul."

Thinking and Creating (Ch. 6 of 'The Impersonal Life')

The Impersonal Life, Chapter VI
THINKING AND CREATING

One day in meditation, I asked "One Being, what is your message for me in this moment?"

The answer returned, "Don't take things so seriously."

Later, it came to me to call the 'One Being' O.B. or, Oh, Be!

O.B., reminiscent of Obi-Wan Kenobi (the Star Wars Jedi / dʒɛˌdaɪ knight and father figure to Luke Skywalker) is more closely associated with other names, such as:

Allah
Animating Principle
Brahman
Creative Source
Elohim
Father-Mother-God
First Cause
Great Spirit
I Am that I Am
Pure Consciousness
Supreme Being
Unified Field
Unmoved Mover
YHWH (יהוה)

As an aside, The unmoved mover (Ancient Greek: ὃ οὐ κινούμενος κινεῖ - "that which moves without being moved") is a monotheistic concept advanced by Aristotle, a polytheist, as a primary cause or "mover" of all the motion in the universe.

Aristotle argues that there must be an immortal, unchanging being, ultimately responsible for all wholeness and orderliness in the sensible world.

Now, in playful moments, I refer to or talk with the One Being as O.B. And why not be on familiar terms with my True Self, the True Self of all that is?

The question comes from a particular perspective, which is my reality. It is based on my understanding that everything seen has a single, unified underlying essential core of being in the unseen, which is pure consciousness, the creative source, the one being. What then is humanity?

Spiritual beings in human bodies?
Individuated units of consciousness?
Sinners fallen from grace?
A strand in the web of life?
A biological phenomenon?
An alien experiment?
A manifesting idea originating from the source of life?

How I relate to the creative source, to the eternal, is the root of my self-created reality.  Is the underlying "essence" a God of Laws who can be offended? A primal force of impersonal Nature? Pure consciousness, moving without being moved, observing and inhabiting its creations? How I imagine God, what I value and the way I see life determine my actions and relationships.

The Earth does not belong to man; Man belongs to the Earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. —  attributed to Chief Seattle

According to 'The Impersonal Life,' (as interpreted by my persona,) all ideas which manifest first originated from the I AM of all that is, from O.B.

Chapter Six details the process of consciously manifesting an idea. The book claims this process includes thinking. However, I like to differentiate between the effortless thought which arises from pure consciousness and analytical, rational thinking and reasoning.

Thought arrives effortlessly and is expansive whereas thinking requires effort and is constrictive. Thought received when a person is focused on aspects of pure consciousness and attuned to higher frequencies, more likely will reflect the highest choices for manifesting an original idea of creative source.

Briefly, the process of manifesting an idea as outlined by the book and re-touched by me is:

A new Idea fertile with possibilities appears

One grows quiet and focuses attention upon that Idea, stilling all activities of the mind and eliminating all other ideas and  thoughts

Desire supplies the motive Power

The mind "thinks out" or "images in" to build mental forms into which O.B. can pour, as into a vacuum, the Impersonal, elemental, vital substance of the Idea.

Thinking out as it feels to me is a process of the analytical and rational brain. Imaging in is altogether different, sourced from the creative. I differ also with the book's assertions about desire. It continues,

The Idea actually comes forth into definite, tangible manifestation.

So it is that every thing, every condition, every event that ever transpired, was first an Idea in the mind. It was by desiring, by thinking, and by speaking forth the Word, that these ideas came into visible manifestation.

From Chapter 6:

First, try to realize that I made you in My Image and Likeness, and that I have My Being within you. Even if you do not know this now and believe that I, God, AM somewhere without, and that we are separated, try for the time being to imagine I AM within you.

Next, realize that which you do when you think is not real thinking, because it is not conscious thinking; for you are unconscious of Me, the Inspirer and Director of every idea and thought that enters your mind.

Next, realize because I AM within you, and you are My Image and Likeness, and therefore possess all of My Faculties, you have the power of thinking; but not being conscious that thinking is creating and that it is one of My Divine Powers you are using, you have indeed all your life been thinking, but it has all been mis-thinking, or what you would call error-thinking.

And this error-thinking, this not knowing it is My Power you have been thus misusing, has been separating you in consciousness farther and farther from Me;  but all the time fulfilling My Purpose, which later on will be made manifest to you.

The proof of this is, you think you are separated from Me, that you are living in a material World, that your body of Flesh engenders and harbors pleasure and pain, and that an evil influence, called the Devil, is manifesting in the world, opposing My Will.

Yes, you think all these things are so. They are—to you, for all things are to man’s mortal consciousness what he thinks or believes they are.

...

It is only by your thinking these other things, by allowing these inharmonious thoughts to enter your mind and by so doing giving them the power so to affect or disturb you, that they have any such influence over you. When you stop thinking  into them this power, and turn within to  Me and allow Me to direct your thinking, they will at once disappear from your consciousness, and dissolve into the nothingness from which you created them by your thinking.

When you are willing to do this, then and then only are you ready to receive Truth, and, by proper conscious thinking, directed by Me, to create the true and permanent things I within wish you to create.

...

it is first wholly necessary that you learn HOW to think, how to know Your thoughts, those directed by Me, from the thoughts of others; how to trace thoughts back to their source and to banish undesirable ones at will from your consciousness; and finally how to control and utilize your desires so that they will always serve YOU, instead of your being a slave to them.

You have within you all possibilities. For I AM there. My Idea must express, and It must express through you. It will express itself perfectly—if you but let it; if you will only still your human mind, put aside all personal ideas, beliefs and opinions, and  let it flow forth. All you need to do is to turn within to Me, and let Me direct your thinking and your desires, let Me express whatever I will, you personally accepting and doing what I desire you to do. Then will your desires come true, your life become one grand harmony, your world a heaven and your self one with My Self.

When you have begun to realize this and have glimpsed somewhat of its inner meaning, then you will be ready to grasp the real import of what follows.
