All profound change emerges from community, from a holding space. A generative holding space is a social field that embodies and strengthens the qualities of the open mind, open heart, and open will. Groups that experience such deeper qualities of the social field report a shift in their awareness and energy that activates the presence of their highest future potential. ~ Otto Scharmer, Presencing Institute Signs of Awakening
Post in a Discussion Group "Sometimes I ponder what it means to be "woke". I see it a lot and I have used it. In the back of my mind, there is always a little cognitive dissonance. I think it spring-boards from my belief that woke puts constraints on your state of openness. Is "woke" a static state or is "woke" a process? I think I would prefer that it is seen a process that means that I am leaning into a state of reasonable openness but not a static description of being 'woke', which sounds the same way that a person who has converted to a fundamentalist form of Christianity refers to themselves as 'saved'." - Danny Bronson My response to this combines with another post, which is somewhat about group awakening, using other language: 'All profound change emerges from community, from a holding space. A generative holding space is a social field that embodies and strengthens the qualities of the open mind, open heart, and open will. Groups that experience such deeper qualities of the social field report a shift in their awareness and energy that activates the presence of their highest future potential.' ~ Otto Scharmer, Presencing Institute Gary's Comment .What are the measures of highest future potential (or awakening)? How can one know that its presence is activated - or that one is awakening? This morning I started writing 'signs of awakening' in response to another post. Awakening, 'activating the presence of highest future potential' and similar terms, are to me incomplete metaphors. What does it look like? How does it feel? What are the signs which indicate it? Yes, I see that Otto Scharmer does say that the 'experience [of] such deeper qualities of the social field [as] 'qualities of the open mind, open heart, and open will' [indicate] 'a shift in their awareness and energy that activates the presence of their highest future potential.' I would like to see this translated into experiential terms on an individual as well as group level. Just to add some fuel to the conversational fire, here are some first thoughts on the somewhat related 'signs of awakening' on an individual level: Does my body feel open, clear, and light? Is my body at ease? Do I have a feeling of well-being? Are my actions effortless? Is my relationship with the Being I am the most essential to me? ('My' as an individuated unit of the One 'I am.') Do I manifest from the Unmanifest, rather than from the manifest? Am I unattached to outcome and free of expectations? Am I an inspiration to myself and others? Am I the Dance, rather than the dancer? Am I living from unlimited Source, rather than from limited personality? Am I embodying the stillness of the center? Do I feel unbounded joy, that is, joy for joy itself? Do I experience borderless awareness? Do I emanate presence?
