In response to my question posted in discussion groups, a reader commented, 'It is soul expression that progresses.' First, my original post, followed by the comment. Aided and abetted by discussion groups, I was stirred to self-enquire, which led me to a question. The question then stimulated a flow of words. Is there a soul that progresses? It is unknown to the ego-mind, but intuitively felt and known, that whatever animates a human being is not static, and that there is potential for this something to survive the entropy of the body. Also it is felt that this cohesive center of awareness, an individuated unit descended from the deep of consciousness, progresses in some way as it journeys through the earth experience. Since this center, a soul, has not fully descended into the density of the body, it is anchored by the ego-mind, a mental construct of identity as self, a temporary placeholder. Due to the distortions of the density, the ego-mind and soul have in most cases lost their connection for communicating. The ego-mind is intended by intelligent design to act as a gateway for the free flow of energy which is love for love itself. However, currently, that which could facilitate the flow generally impedes it. Whether the soul progresses or the ego-mind transforms or both, there is opportunity for advancement over an expansion of awareness. It can be helpful to see technicalities as generally unimportant, to give space for expansion. The less a mind has to know and control, the more it can abide in being. The less a mind has to analyze, comment, or react, the greater its state of rest. Only in a state of rest, of being, can there be access to the Present Moment, the deep of consciousness. Only when the ego-mind accesses and surrenders to the deep of consciousness, its greater Self, will human beings realize their potential. I find it useful to repeat the phrase over the day, 'it is what it is.' That moves my mind to a state of rest. The most potent tool of self-transformation I know is the 'Progress of the Soul' meditation. To hold up to that claim, requires a means of measuring progress of the soul, even if that evidence is subjective and anecdotal. One's experience is a valid form of truth. What the measure is, can be left to the individual. My soul progresses when it moves through the vicissitudes of earth life with more grace, ease, and effortlessness. My self-test for measuring includes questions such as these:
For the sake of making a difference, if you knew for a certainty that the greatest gift you could give to humanity, and the greatest help to alleviate its suffering, would be to transform your self, would you put your primary focus or energy into anything else? COMMENTS In another post, I asked, 'Is there a soul that progresses?' In another group, Lesley Williams commented, 'It is soul expression that progresses.' To which, I responded: Ah! Thanks for the insight! Your six word sentence might seem little when compared, but in truth it's effect is multiplied, as it opens new vistas of understanding. On one hand, I feel 'nothing is fixed', to be hard labeled and categorized. Yet it feels, there must be more to this existence, than a soul ( supposing it is actual), merely passing through the earth experience unchanged. What would be the point? Yes, of course, one possibility is that there is no point or purpose. But that option does not align with what I know of Nature. I intuit, that the purpose of a lifetime depends on what the individual makes it to be. That is also my conclusion drawn from editing a volume of 'Vision River Guide' on 'Finding Life Purpose. ' I put the question out, 'What is the purpose of life?' and received hundreds of responses. Nature can be humanity's greatest teacher, if there is humility sufficient to listen to, rather than dominate. Nature, it could be said, does have aims, or inherent tendencies, such as diversification, efficiency, and balance. Considering those attributes of Nature, it fits well to say that there is a progress of the soul's expression. Progress of the soul's expression could be part of Nature's diversification through humankind. This thought can branch out to ideas of humans as creators. Can I grow my soul deliberately while in the body, literally making it more vital and robust, and stronger as it passes through the veil? I feel that is happening in my 'Progress of the Soul' meditations, as I strengthen my merkaba, the Present Moment Sphere. The merkaba feels to me a soul body, with which my awareness can integrate. Years ago, I had a vision-dream in which I was navigating above the ground in my merkaba. Others around me were also lifting off the ground in theirs. Only in the past year, through the development of the 'Progress of the Soul' meditation have I realized the real opportunity to be a conscious creator of this experience in the present realm. Can I open my awareness sufficiently to expand my self identity from ego to soul/merkaba? It feels so. That to me would be measurable progress of the Soul expression. The image of one hand reaching to another speaks to me in this context of bridging between the ego mind of my human awareness with the deep of consciousness, the Lord I am, my greater Self. Esteban Trev Gary R. Smith ~ I find that interesting to read. I would share that as a conscious creator of this experience in the present realm one should be able to handle which ideologies to create and recreate... in simple terms words lexicons as a conscious creator of this one should be mindful and hearful and bodyful of what notions one opts to employ... in the top thread you seemed to me to have opted to focus on how to alleviate _____ instead of how to prevent ______ while promoting and cultivating or creating better or best as best and better be realized... This is a rather typical present condition with many... and the challenge is how to get each to recognize such and opt to change what needs changing... take for example the statement "... if there is humility sufficient to listen to, rather than dominate..." to me that be sort of tantamount with "... if there is arrogance sufficient to dominate , rather than speak or hear or make the statements that need be made to dialogue about the truth..."... look why would one want to exaggerate the individual's self-importance for less or for more instead of assess such just right? humility is not the opposite notion to arrogance it's the same notion expressed in a different form... prudence and modesty be the inoculating antidotal vaccinating alternative notions ... be as this may be the key issue here that I wanted to point out was that you opted to use a notion involving an exaggerated sense of self-importance (granted to diminish rather than amplify the self-importance but still an an exaggerated sense of self-importance ) instead of opting to use a more equanimous notion ... or simply leaving such out ... and simply stating "Nature can be humanity's greatest teacher" Gary Esteban Trev ~ Your insights shared are appreciated and well-taken. May I add them to a Whole Human post? Esteban Gary R. Smith ~ I will just ask that instead of - stating that they are my insight shared that you say they are the insights shared by me..... and others who happen to share such insights. this issue of someone's insights or the insights shared by somebody sort of seems to me to depict a subtle nuance which can be characterized as (the possessive form) or (the form handled/tended by somebody)... personally I would prefer to move from someone's truth or the truth according to somebody over to the truth .... the thing is some seem fixated on such possessiveness
