'There is nothing to change but our concept of self. 'As soon as we succeed
in transforming self, our world will dissolve and reshape itself in harmony with that which our change affirms.' Do you know in your heart it is true? I do. Sure, other questions arise. Like, 'What is self?' and, 'Why does it need to be changed?' We won't resolve those questions here, and I can only offer a perspective, garnered from my experience. A friend asked, regarding discussion group posts, 'Who' is posting? I love questions like that because they spur me to ask within, and to explore. The imagery I saw in response is the analogy of a funnel of consciousness. When restricted in myself by whatever emotions, the energy of consciousness I am posting from is also narrow and restricted. In such a narrow space, the 'I' feels separated from the whole, and can be called the ego. One with a big ego might more rightly be said to have a constricted or distorted sense of self. What human is not distorted by the drama and trauma of the world? When the energy is flowing and the consciousness expanded, a post may be written from the flow of love, a relaxed and expanded awareness. Here, borders and boundaries dissolve until there may be no sense of self at all. But, with no sense of self, could a person participate in group discussions? So, what is the transformation of self to which Neville Goddard refers? I wouldn't stand behind an artist at the easel, and say, 'you should paint this, or that.' That is, I would not tell another what self-changes they should make. It is the artist's painting, and only the artist can decide what their self concept will be. Over my life, I've had a range of self concepts: renegade, student-disciple, spiritual entrepreneur, explorer-experimenter, healer, practical mystic, conscious creator serving the source of life. Self-concept is something else than roles or titles, functions or careers. Being the self concept, I've found, is a process, a journey. It is a progress of the soul, as the concept evolves. Certainly Neville's words have come to me at the right time, since he gives some useful tools of transformation. Rather than changing the self, however, I see it as taking on a larger view, a more complete perspective, of oneself, and living from that expanded consciousness. For me, the most effective tool in this process is the 'Progress of the Soul' meditation. What a time in which to change the world by the evolution of the concept of ones Self, and thereby living from a more complete version of oneself. Your comments are appreciated.
