Cardano Governance Could be An Opportunity For Pure Democracy DYANA - THE MEDITATIVE SOCIETY EXCERPTS FROM: Deep Dive: CIP-1694 An On-Chain Decentralized Governance Mechanism for Voltaire by Alan Buxbaum February 25, 2023 Cardano Pills Quick Overview As many know, the core tenant that propels Cardano's many value propositions forward has been decentralization from the start. Every step that has been taken so far has been done with this fundamental paradigm leading the way. One of the most important aspects of this becoming a reality is creating a governance that is ultimately determined by the community of ADA holders. This is arguably something that no other blockchain is close to seeing through, making this in and of itself the core value proposition of Cardano. Now, if you've been on Cardano Twitter over the past few weeks, this might be a scary thought...and, in many ways, it should be! Various sects of humanity have been trying to figure out a fair and distributed form of functional governance for quite some time. [Gary 's note: Whereas Cardano represents an evolution of blockchain technology, the question is whether harmonious self-governance can be sustained without corresponding whole human evolution of the community members. My solution, for which few may be currently ready, is in a collective toolkit being developed.] Lucky for us, society has never been equipped with the range of tools that it has now: the internet, the ability to automate process(es) via code, and of course, a solution to the Byzantine General Problem.... What Is CIP-1694 Solving? CIP-1694 is a massive step towards solving what many see as the original reason for blockchain's existence: a network that is run by its users without the need for a centralized group of actors, hence (in theory), creating a fairer set of conditions for all. Specifically, the implementation of CIP-1694 should allow the community to have complete control over the CIP process and protocol changes. For anyone who isn't aware, CIP stands for "Cardano Improvement Proposal" and is the mechanism by which protocol/parameter changes are made on Cardano's base layer. Given that any legitimate blockchain's code must have proper checks and balances, it should be apparent why this process is such an important one.... How To Get Involved If you've made it this far, you have permission to close your eyes and take a deep breath. Yes, these ideas are complex and experimental in nature, meaning that no one knows what the future will bring. This is why it's vital that community members contribute whatever expertise and energy they have towards making sure that CIP-1694 (and subsequent governance measures) are as thorough and well-thought-out as possible.
